But how will an unexpected reunion with her first love from years ago affect her plans? Composer Sebastian Mauer foolishly pushed aside his love for Penelope, thinking it was for her own good at the time. Penelope had been greeted by several people, and engaged in brief conversation before continuing to roam. Half the tables had already filled, and within the hour, the Symphony’s director, as well as the conductor would be making speeches before the merriment really got underway.

As she began walking toward the window, she continued to scan the room, admiring the women in their beautiful gowns along with their gentlemen partners in their handsome tuxedos and suits. Quiet conversation filtered around her as the melody of “Silent Night”, composed by Austrian Franz Xaver Gruber, added to the festive feeling.

After circling the tree, she stopped in front of the window to admire the snow blanketing the outside, the expanse of white gleaming under ambient light. Penelope then focused on watching the gathering behind her through the reflection of the glass, as if viewing it from another dimension. Patrons lingered, sipping from their flutes of champagne, while others flitted from group to group, making introductions and adding to the conversations.

As she continued to observe, movement caught her eye, and there stood Sebastian, encased in his tuxedo. He looks dashing! She chuckled to herself at her thoughts. And although with the distance she couldn’t see his eyes, she knew they were a light green and were no doubt sparkling. At least they had last night. Dark brown hair waved casually about, giving him a rakish look, as opposed to most of the gentlemen present with styled hair, slicked with gel.

As Sebastian greeted those who approached him, he smiled broadly with his full lips, making his matching dimples appear below his cheeks. The small cleft in his chin was somehow an enticing feature on his smooth face.

Penelope felt herself smiling just watching him, both eager and nervous for him to be near. He continued to slowly make his way throughout the room, and when he came within ten feet of the tree, he looked up, his gaze colliding with hers. She was dazzled by his smile as it grew even wider the longer he stared. She couldn’t help but blush and duck her head, and when she looked back up, he stood right in front of her. Her quick inhale preceded a gasp, and he was quick to apologize for apparently startling her.

“I’m sorry, Penelope, I didn’t mean to startle you. Are you here alone?”

“I am. Father wasn’t feeling up to attending, but insisted I come and enjoy myself.”

“And are you? Enjoying yourself?” She was certain his smile was one of mischief.

“I am now,” she stated boldly. She quickly cleared her throat and rushed on after seeing his brow inch up. “Don’t you think the ballroom looks magnificent? I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything so stunning.”

Sebastian looked around as if taking in the surroundings for the first time. “Yes, the decorators have certainly done well.” When his gaze landed back on her, his intense look sent shivers across her skin. “But nothing compares to the stunning vision in front of me.”

About the Book

“They took broken and made it art”

SETH
I’m a trash artist.
I’m a recovering alcoholic.
I’m a rude bastard.

It’s why I was better of alone until feisty blogger PJ Hensley entered my life with her fairy-like quality. Suddenly I couldn’t imagine a life without her in it. And when she loved me and left me, it was what I expected but it isn’t what I wanted.

And because I couldn’t just let her go, I’ve spent the last five months writing her letters trying to convince her to come home even though I know she won’t. I don’t deserve for her to come back.

PJ
I was ignoring my screwed up past and a bunch of stalker-like texts while focusing on graduating college. The last thing I needed was a moody trash artist entering my world. But like all things Seth, he entered my life anyway with an intensity and focus that left me breathless.

And when the summer collided into one big mess, I ran. To try to heal. To try and escape. But Seth’s letters are tearing at my soul and slowly reeling me back in. He’s almost convinced me that he can weld our lives back together into something beautiful. Almost…

From award-winning author LJ Evans comes a novel inspired by Bon Jovi songs that shows how love and acceptance can heal even the toughest scars.

PJ opens the letter from Seth with trepidation. She’d moved almost three thousand miles away from him on purpose. It wasn’t just to attend grad school. Although that was what she told him and everyone else in her life.

She’d walked way because she’d been drowning.

She’d been lost in a wave of Seth.

She’d been lost in her own past and her own mistakes.

She’d moved to New York so she could breathe.

And she is. Breathing. Living. She’s started school. She’s going out with Haley and Mina without having as many anxiety attacks. She’s enjoying her classes.

It’s why she’d waited two days before opening the letter. She hadn’t been sure she could handle the intensity of Seth. It was why she hadn’t given him her new phone number because she’d known he couldn’t resist calling and demanding that she respond. She’d known his voice would draw her back into the depths of the sea she’d just escaped.

She’d given him the address to the apartment instead. She’d assumed a letter would be safer. That she could read a letter and set it aside without feeling like she had to respond right away, if at all. And, if she was being honest, she hadn’t thought he’d write. Seth, artist that he was, was always a man of few words and letters seemed like more words than he was capable of.

She hadn’t counted on his need for her to counter his lack of communication skills.

As soon as she reads the letter it brings her back to him and everything that happened in the crazy three and half months that they were together.

What she hadn’t expected was to be filled with such longing. Longing to wrap her arms around his muscled torso. Longing to reassure the man with the broken kid inside of him that she did in fact still love him. Longing to feel beautiful, adored, and safe as she always had when she was with him.

But. That longing. All of those feelings. They were exactly why she had left. There was more to her than longing. There was more to her than being Seth’s whole world.

She needs to do this for her. She needs to do this for him. She needs to do this for them.

“You stink, and I already took a shower,” Lila squealed, bringing me out of my trance. Ross grabbed her and slung her over his shoulder, carrying her across the lawn and towards the house.

Mark tapped me on the shoulder. “Hey, I need a shower, too. I’ll be back in a few minutes. Do you want to hang out here?”

He’s abandoning me? In front of two good-looking, shirtless strangers? “Sure,” I heard myself say.

Thankfully, he stood there a minute longer. “I’ll grab a round of drinks.” He darted away.

“Nice spike there at the end,” I commented to Zack.

“Thanks. I see you have a shadow.” He bent down and patted the dog still glued to my leg.

Excusing themselves to replace their shirts, Doug and Zack once again towered over me. Even in my wedges, the top of my head barely reached the middle of Zack’s chest.

Zack spoke before the silence became obvious. “So, Amanda Avery of the famed Avery sisters?”

“In the flesh.” I waved my hands past my legs, not quite sure where he was going with the conversation. Obviously they knew their alums.

Doug continued in an Elizabethan tone. “The beauty of the Avery girls has inspired many brothers to greatness.”

“I’m just glad no one remembers when I flashed everyone on the front lawn when I was three.”

“Your reputation is still intact.” Doug winked at me with his blue eyes.

Mark approached with three plastic cups filled with amber liquid. I wondered if this counted as taking an open drink from someone. At the very least, it went against the no alcohol rule. Not even six hours in, and I was already contemplating being an illegal drinker. Maybe I needed that orientation more than I thought.

Even though I didn’t like beer and had never drunk a whole glass, I wasn’t going to stand there and do nothing. The sip I took tasted bitter, and I hoped my face didn’t betray my attempt at a relaxed facade.

“Not that great, is it?” Doug asked.

“It’s relatively cold.”

Zack held up his cup. “Cheers to that.” Doug and I did the same, and we clunked the cups together. “If I may, my lady, I’m not sure you’re going to maintain your virtue drinking that.”

Doug punched Zack. “Dude.”

I winked at Zack. “Maybe you should stick with flattery and leave Shakespeare to Doug. You have to stay in your niche.”

I was surprised how comfortable I felt with them. Their knack for humor immediately put me at ease, despite their magazine model aura. “So do you guys do this routine on a regular basis?”

Zack held his cup out. “This is a one-time only special showing. If we hope to win the heart of an Avery girl, we have to be creative.”

“And there are only two of us left to be wooed.”

“We would be nothing without your inspiration.” Doug bowed towards me, one hand over his heart.

Zack and I both faked a cough.

Doug grabbed a Frisbee from the lawn. “Frisbee?”

I’d known that particular question was going to come out of his lack of privacy-loving lips as soon as he started talking erotica and oral sex with me the day before. And yet, I wasn’t sure I could answer him. Embarrassed. Not embarrassed. I didn’t know what to feel.

“Do you mean like we’ve been sleeping together or do you mean had sex with?”

“That’s your ten,” he grinned at me, and I eye-rolled him which earned me a quick kiss. “And you know what I mean,” he told me. “Full on naked, body part inside body part sex.”

I couldn’t help the blush, and I put my fingers up like I was counting to give myself time. Like it was hard to think about the right number. I could see his eyes get dark and stormy over the tips of my fingers like he wasn’t happy. Finally, I showed him one finger. He looked down at it for a second before realization kicked in. And he reached over and bit my finger, keeping it in his mouth and turning my whole body to a quivering mush pot.

“You are going to be the death of me,” he said, like he had so many times already. But he said it with a huge smile.

Then he kissed me again. Hard, demanding, like he wasn’t going to stop ever. And I kissed him back. Hard, demanding, like I’d always wanted to kiss a boy. With feelings blossoming deep inside me as the walls crumbled and Good Girl Mia hid behind the curtains.

Where were you born?

I was born in Los Angeles, California on the spring equinox, March 21, 1999.

Do you have a close relationship with your family?

My dad travels a lot and my mother struggles with manic depression and drug issues so I was mainly raised by my grandparents, Nan and Pop. When I'm seventeen I discover my father is a witch and mother is half-vampire.

Who is your enemy?

My friend Camille and I were taken hostage by Michael's coven, an evil coven of witches. They wish to use a magical dagger to free all of their fallen ancestors from purgatory by putting their souls into vampires.

Tell us a little about your world, and where you fit in?

My friend Camille discovered she was a witch at the same time I did. She realized hallucinations she was having were really visions of two other witches she is linked to, Alena and Hunter. They like Camille, were born on the summer solstice in 1999. They are the children of light and the prophecy states that they are to free witches from a curse that limits how long they can live in one place. We also believe that witches' souls will pass from Sheol where they are imprisoned to find peace.

What are your goals?

I escaped from Michael's coven but they are still holding Camille. I will rescue Camille and make sure she stays safe.

What was the most exciting adventure you've ever been on?

Camille and I met during a camping expedition in Iceland. We went hiking, ice climbing, explored glaciers, and kayaking in the North Sea. From there we traveled to Italy where we were held hostage in a castle and trained to be witches.

What do you regret most in your life?

My biggest regret is leaving Camille to go rescue her father. When I returned she as gone, captured by Michael's coven. I only have one aim now, saving Camille.

About the Book

For an Icelandic witch, Arisa’s life was mundane. Between accepting offerings from citizens in the town nearby in return for magic, and living in the middle of nowhere, Arisa had little to no social life outside of her mother and her cat, Baldúr. Until Ren.

Ren, attractive and arrogant, forces Arisa outside herself and sets them both on a path far from home. Even if Arisa can learn to understand Ren while on their journey, the outside world threatens to split them apart since not all magic is good and witches aren’t the only ones hiding in the wood.

When Arisa came to her head hurt and her movements felt constricted. She heard someone calling out to her and opened her eyes. Ren was lying in front of her with hands tied behind his back and his ankles bound together. Besides Arisa, Ren, and a mattress layered under sheets in the corner, the room was empty. A dim light flickered overhead. There were no windows and only one door. It was a cell of wooden floors and walls.

Ren exhaled. “Thank goodness. I was starting to worry you wouldn’t wake up. Are you all right? Did they do anything to you?”

“I’m all right, are you okay?” She thought his lip looked swollen but she couldn’t reach out to him. She was bound just as he was.

“Yeah, I’m fine. A little confused but otherwise, okay.”

Of course he was confused. Arisa wasn’t sure what his interactions with the dark elves that brought him here were like, but it certainly wasn’t anything he was used to. “Well, I’m a little confused myself.” She tried to free her wrists from their constraints but it was no use. The rope was thick and she couldn’t wiggle out of it. “It would appear we’ve been kidnapped by dark elves and I’m not sure why.”

“Allow me to enlighten you.”

Arisa recognized Ymir’s voice as the door slammed behind her. She looked back at him.

“Glad to see you’re awake, little witch.”

“You.”

Arisa looked at Ren whose voice filled with anger. He forced himself up off his side into a seated position “Are you the one who knocked her unconscious?”

“Guilty.” Ymir raised his hand in response.

“You better pray I don’t get out of these ropes.”

“Or what, you’ll kill me?” Ymir laughed and his demeanor quickly shifted. His laughter died and his words were bitter. “Don’t be stupid.” He kicked Ren’s abdomen, the pointed toe of his boot driving into the soft flesh.

“Stop!” Arisa shouted and Ymir turned to her.

Ymir sat Arisa up and leaned her against the nearby wall. He patted her head. “He’ll be fine, won’t you?” He glanced back at Ren but didn’t wait for him to respond. “You’ll both be fine. I didn’t bring you here to hurt you.” He knelt down in front her so their eyes were level. “However, I will not tolerate rudeness, especially not from a lowly human. So, keep him in line and we’ll get along just fine.”

Arisa saw that Ren was about to run his mouth. “Ren.” She waited for him to look at her and shook her head.

“But, Arisa.” He stared at her for a moment and sighed. “Fine.”

“Wonderful!” Ymir stood and clapped his hands. “Now that everyone’s on the same page, allow me to answer your earlier question. You’re here…Arisa, was it? You’re here, because I need to borrow your magic.”

Poet of the Wrong Generation by Lonnie Ostrow

My name is Lonnie Ostrow. I have been an innovator, storyteller, promoter and celebrity-insider for more than two decades. Since 2001, I have been the publicity/marketing director & researcher for the iconic best-selling novelist Barbara T. Bradford. I also serve as an editorial and marketing consultant for a collection of first-time authors through The Editorial Department. Previously I worked as a PR executive, promoting an assortment of first-time celebrity authors including Ray Manzarek of The Doors. From 1995 - 2001, I was widely credited with inventing the "living celebrity postal phenomenon." In all, I have worked with more than 40 legendary personalities from Bob Dylan to the Bee Gees, Sylvester Stallone to Jackie Chan, creating high-profile media events to celebrate their postal recognition by an assortment of foreign nations.

I am excited to share that I have my first book coming out on November 10 2016 called Poet Of The Wrong Generation. With Poet of the Wrong Generation I am hoping to have combined all my unique experiences to bring you a novel of love & betrayal, music & fanfare, downfall & redemption -- a fable of stardom's rewards, set in New York City during the 1990s.

About the Book

“It’s not that I don’t love you, and my tears are yet to dry.
But you can’t go back and forth forever and we’ve already said goodbye.”

Through these words, a young poet unearths his musical soul while severing ties with the woman he loves after her stunning betrayal. Unknowingly, in writing this ballad of liberation, he will soon evolve as one of the fastest rising stars on the pop music landscape.

The year is 1991; the place, New York City. Here we meet Johnny Elias, a college student from Brooklyn with boundless adoration for two things in life: timeless popular music, and the heart of a sweet, complicated young woman who is clearly out of his league.

Megan Price not only is the object of Johnny’s affection, but also the only daughter of New York’s most powerful PR woman: the indomitable Katherine Price.

Projecting that her daughter’s boyfriend will never live up to the family standard, Katherine cleverly perpetrates a series of duplicitous schemes to rid Johnny from her high-class world. But in her callous disregard, she inadvertently sets him on a determined course to his improbable musical destiny - while sending her own daughter spiraling down a path of despair.

Poet of the Wrong Generation tells the symmetrical story of a lovable underdog and his meteoric rise to stardom, his humiliating downfall and his unprecedented attempt to reclaim his place as the unlikely musical spokesman for his generation. At the heart of Poet is a tale of star-crossed lovers and their struggle with unforeseen success and disillusionment, in an attempt to rediscover lasting harmony.

Uniquely integrating a variety of original song compositions, Poet projects the epic clash between true contentment and the fable of stardom’s rewards; a nostalgic journey through the major events of the 1990s, with a cherished cast of characters and a stunningly unpredictable conclusion.

Audio soundtrack of the original music from Poet Of The Wrong Generation can be heard on the author website, LonnieOstrow.com.

Why did you decide to be a writer?

As a kid in grade school, I often struggled with math and science. But when it came to writing, I always excelled. I loved the art of storytelling and found a way to write a series of short stories for my 4th grade English teacher, which earned me some extra credit in her class. In college, I wrote articles for the student newspaper. Seeing my byline next to my articles got me addicted to the idea of generating further written exposure. In the years that followed, I wrote articles of local newspapers, magazines and later for websites. The enjoyment I get from the feedback motivated me to take it to the next level and complete my first novel.

Do you have a "day job"? If so, what do you do?

Presently, and for the past 14 years, I've worked as the in-house marketing director for the iconic bestselling novelist, Barbara T. Bradford. I do everything from research for her novels to managing her office and her vast fan-base via her websites and social media platforms. I also have a freelance job as a marketing/editing consultant for a wide array of first time authors through an agency called The Editorial Department based in Tuscon, AZ.

What genres do you write?

Technically speaking, my debut novel should be classified as "musical fiction." It has been hailed as "the ultimate rock and roll love story." However, because it is a contemporary love story (set in the 1990s), it can be listed under "contemporary romance," or simply as "mainstream fiction."

Is there a genre that you've been wanting to experiment with? If so, what is it and what attracts you to it?

I've always loved novels that incorporate elements of history and popular culture. Although I wouldn't classify my debut novel as an experiment, I do think of it as a genre that has been infrequently visited in fiction. You can count on one hand the number of popular novels that feature a pop star, songwriter as a protagonist.

What inspires you to write?

My younger daughter, Casey, has been encouraging me since she was a small child to create a book with my name on the front cover. That alone is some serious inspiration. I'm inspired by a desire to tell stories from my imagination that move people and elicit a wide array of emotions. I'm inspired by music from my youth that I look to keep relevant in fiction. I'm inspired by news and events from today, as well as those from the past that have now become my nostalgia. Most of all, I'm inspired by family and friends who are endlessly on my case to use my writing talents for something exceptional.

What authors/books have most influenced you?

Nick Hornby and Carl Hiaasen are my two favorite contemporary authors. I love how these master storytellers blend elements of pop culture into their fiction. Mr. Hiaasen even wrote a novel called, Basket Case, about a fictional pop song that factors into the overall mystery. Of classic literature, I've always been partial to The Picture Of Dorian Grey by Oscar Wilde. I just love Mr. Wilde's play on words in his dialog, along with his injection of sarcasm and humor.

If you could choose an author to be your mentor, who would it be?

Nicholas Sparks would be a good choice. As a male author writing fiction that primarily appeals to women, I suspect that there is a lot I could learn from him and his formula of success.

When did you first consider yourself an author?

I finished writing Poet Of The Wrong Generation in November of 2002. Having a completed first-draft manuscript convinced me that I could perhaps become an author. However, it wasn't until I received the advance reading copies back in August of this year with my name on the front that I considered myself a full-fledged author.

Does your family support you in your writing, or are you on your own?

My family has been remarkably patient and supportive during my 14 year journey from the writing of my novel to publication. They all knew that I had a great story to tell. My wife and our two daughters have often reminded me not to lose sight of the ultimate goal of seeing my work in print.

Have you ever had a particularly harsh critique? How did you handle it?

A literary agent who I pitched for representation back in 2006 told me that he loved my book, but hated the ending. He stated that he would only represent me if I changed the conclusion to something that resembled happily ever after. I was determined to leave the ending exactly as I'd written it, even if it angered my readers. So I stuck with my original ending and lost out on that particular agent. Over the years, dozens of readers of my manuscript offered similar feedback about the abrupt nature of the final scene. It took a dozen years (and a lot of soul-searching), but I finally re-wrote the ending to something that could be perceived as potentially more optimistic. It seems to go over exceptionally well with my early readers, while not undermining what I had in mind for the original ending.

What is the best writing advice you've ever received?

My editor, Jeannette de Beauvior, is herself a successful novelist. She encouraged me to lose my hesitation to cut paragraphs from the story that were beautifully written, but not necessary in the overall story arch. The process of cutting some of these paragraphs, and even a few scenes felt painful while I performed this task. In the end, however, I have a much tighter book to show for it.

What do you enjoy doing aside from writing?

I love mentoring other writers. I've been doing this for the past dozen years. Because of my position with such a renowned author, I've regularly been approached by first-timers seeking my advice, opinions and editorial/marketing know-how. It is an incredible joy to see inexperienced writers whip their early manuscript drafts into polished books. And even better is to help these writers to build a fan base for themselves through marketing fundamentals.

What is your writing process?

When I wrote my novel, I did most of the work late at night and on the weekends. My day-job can be demanding, which prevents me from working on my own fiction during business hours. But I do use my train commute to edit my work. My goal for each writing session was to complete at least ten pages. Because I knew the story so well ahead of writing it, I had no trouble pouring out the story. And by writing late at night, my distractions were minimized.

Do you write about real life experiences, or does everything come from your imagination?

My novel is purely fictional. But I loosely based my protagonist on someone who I used to be back in my college days. I was a novice songwriter in the late 80s and early 90s. I was prolific at composing lyrics and melodies, but never did anything with them. A decade later, I dusted off a few of my song notebooks during a move and wondered for a moment what life might have been like if I had pursued a career in music. This was a significant part of the inspiration behind the story.

Do you ever base your characters on people you know?

A few of my characters are composites of friends and former acquaintances. The Larry Jacobs character is loosely based on the legendary NY radio host, Cousin Brucie. Howard Greffen, the musical mentor to my protagonist is inspired by three different people who I've crossed paths with over the years.

How do you market/promote your work? Have you found something that works really well for you?

Social media and blogging are a huge part of my marketing strategy. I've written a series of blog articles that loosely tie into my book, while also giving it a gentle plug at the end. I'm also a big believer in targeted Facebook advertising.

Do you have any advice for other authors?

Dream big, but think level-headed. Everyone who gets a great story idea suddenly has visions of bestseller lists and grandeur. The reality is that getting there requires immense determination and a bit of good fortune along the way. Only those driven to overcome the many setbacks along the way are going to come close to succeeding in their goals.

Chapter 1

IT’S A DAY kind of like Christmas. Everyone is excited for the morning activities. You open up your thirty-something presents, hoping that your dream is wrapped up somewhere. As if dreams can even be wrapped. The day commences, and you enjoy your gifts. But no one really wants it to end. The feeling at 11:59 p.m. on Christmas Day is the worst. Christmas is over. 365 more days until the next one. Who really wants to put that damn tree back in the attic, anyway? Let’s be real.

It’s just like high school graduation. The day when you’re going off into the world, hopefully to college, to see if you can carry the weight of that damn Christmas tree into the “real world.” Who even came up with that phrase, anyway? As if high school isn’t the real world. As if high school isn’t merely a place where they send teenagers so we can understand what it feels like to be taunted, treated like five-year-olds, and told that anything is possible. But it’s complete bullshit. Not everything is possible. How could it be? Is Susan Stein, the weird girl who sits in the front of Advanced Placement calculus, really going to sprout wings like she says? I don’t think so.

The real world. It’s a scary place. Or so they claim. I never felt a rush of fear come over my body the day I was accepted into eight of the nine colleges to which I’d applied. Granted, two were my safety schools in Florida—just in case my SAT scores weren’t as good as my counselor claimed they’d be. Take that, Florida State and Central Florida! The only one I didn’t get into was my reach school, Duke. It’s too bad. I would’ve been an awesome Cameron Crazie. Coach K’s loss.

I was excited to go onto college, eat crappy college food, and gain the freshman fifteen. Well, actually, I didn’t really want to gain the freshman fifteen, but let’s be real, that’s what happens to basically every girl who goes to college. I wasn’t even afraid to move onto the University of Miami campus when I got my room assignment in July to live in Mahoney Residential College with my roommate, Stacy James. Fear did strike me when my older sister explained that roommates can sometimes be stalkers. Or boyfriend-stealers. Or refrigerator scoundrels. I think the idea of Stacy James stealing my dried apricots and whatever fresh fruit I was eating that week struck a chord the most. See, freshman fifteen: what did I tell you?

Luckily Stacy James wasn’t crazy. Well, she is crazy… for the opposite sex. And for sex. For foreplay. The works. She came into college with more notches on her belt than Hugh Hefner at the same age. Ridiculous? Well, yes. But for Stacy, sex is a part of getting to know someone. She probably would’ve propositioned me, too, if she’d been drinking all night and had still been able to walk back to Mahoney without my support. My college experience was quite unusual. Let me tell you about my freshman year: the fear, the love, the pain. Especially the rush of freshman-year fear, which caught up with me pretty quickly. Before school began, I never thought it would. I was way too strong for that. I was way too mature for that. I could handle being two-hundred-twenty-one miles away from my parents, no sweat. I wasn’t clingy. Or so I thought. But the day fear rushed through my body was on the first weekend of college. The first Friday. That was the day I met Ryan Olsen. And Steven Sterling.

Rooter: Sophie's Obsession by Teiran Smith

Teiran's days are filled with writing. When she's not writing, she's reading. She can get so lost in a story, be it one of her own or someone else's, that she won't even break away to eat, drink, or take a bathroom break. By the time Teiran gets up from a story, she's usually dizzy from low blood sugar, suffering blurred vision, and hunched over from a painfully full bladder. It's safe to say the written word is her life.

Whenever Teiran's not writing or reading, you will find her working out, enjoying outdoor photography, partaking in a little wine (okay, okay... a lot) with good friends.

Teiran resides in Grand Haven, Michigan with her husband, Scott, and their four legged child, Sasha.

More About the Author

Why did you decide to be a writer?

Because I can't not write. It's that simple. It's my passion. It's what I live to do.

Do you have a "day job"? If so, what do you do?

I am writing full time. My husband has been gracious enough to let me take the time off to focus on my writing career and to make my dream of becoming a published author come true.

What authors/books have most influenced you?

For the New Adult genre, I have to say it's a toss up between Jamie McGuire and Colleen Hoover.

But the very first author who inspired me was Edgar Allen Poe followed by William Shakespeare and then Jane Austen.

When did you first consider yourself an author?

Just recently while working on publishing my debut novel.

What are your goals as an author? Where do you see yourself in five years?

My number one goal is to create an escape for my readers. So hopefully in five years time I will have built a strong readership.

What is the biggest obstacle you face as an author and what do you do to overcome it?

The biggest obstacle procrastination. That and editing. I'm not a fan of the editing process, but it is a necessary evil.

What is the best compliment you've ever received as an author?

I received my greatest compliment from a reader who told me my book, Rooter, was her escape from caring for her terminally ill father. That reading my story got her through his passing.

Have you ever had a particularly harsh critique? How did you handle it?

Not yet, but I'm sure they're coming. Ha! I'm not sure how I will handle it, but I hope to use it as constructive criticism to improve my writing.

What is the best writing advice you've ever received?

Hands down, the best writing advice I have ever received was to "just write." Don't worry about how bad it is, just get the story out while it's in my head. I can edit it later.

What do you enjoy doing aside from writing?

Aside from writing, I love, love, love to read. When I do manage to tear myself away from writing and reading, I enjoy landscape photography and this year started abstract painting.

How many books do you have on your "to read" list? What are some of them?

Right now I have 45 book on my to read list. I want to read the Flicker Effect Trilogy by Melanie Hooyenga. She's an author who lives in the same town as me. I also want to read Point of Retreat by Colleen Hoover and Where She Went by Gayle Forman.

What made you decide to self-publish?

I did a ton of research on traditional and self publishing. I did query my dream agents and a couple publishing houses. I decided if I couldn't land one of them, I would do it on my own. I was never all that keen on traditional publishing to begin with. I am a bit of a control freak and like being in the driver's seat. With self-publishing, I'm writing my own destiny.

What fears do you have about writing and being an indie author? How do you cope with your fears?

I don't have any fears, believe it or not. Writing is a part of me. It's my dream to be a published author. I realize there will be people who hate my work, and hopefully there will be people who love it. I have extremely thick skin.

Are you a pantser or outliner?

Is it possible to be a combination of both? I sometimes write a general outline, but I'm much more character driven and I always know my beginning and ending before I start writing. I like to let my characters take me on their journey as I write. I do however create very detailed character profiles before I get started.

What are you working on now?

I am currently working on the second book in the Double H Romance series, Rooter - Possessing Sophie. It's Sophie and Rooter's story told from Rooter's perspective.

Do you have anything specific you'd like to say to your readers?

Yes. I want to thank each and every one of you for spending your valuable time reading my story. I know how finite and precious time is and am honored you spent it on me.

About Teiran's Book, Rooter: Sophie's Obsession

At twenty one, Sophie has already endured enough pain and heartache to last two lifetimes. All she wants to do is create a normal, comfortable life for herself. She goes to college, works part-time, and leads a quiet, ordinary routine. So why is she so obsessed with Rooter, the alleged “vicious criminal” next door? She watches as he comes and goes. Watches him play with his pitbull. Watches him hang out in his backyard with other alleged criminals.

After Sophie is attacked by her roommate Rooter swoops in to her defense. She quickly falls for Rooter, though he makes it perfectly clear she’s better off not knowing him. He's the worst kind of guy. Dangerous. And she is a good girl who deserves better. To Sophie’s chagrin, Rooter adamantly tries to put distance between them.

When a pair of dangerous thugs break into her house and assault her in the middle of the night, Rooter comes to her rescue yet again. She is elated when Rooter finally confesses his feelings for her. They embark on a passionate relationship, but his deep, dark secrets, controlling tendencies, and crazy, pregnant ex-friend-with-benefits threaten to tear them apart.

Just when it seems things can't get any worse, Sophie is accused of a brutal crime which pits Rooter against her. So when she gets attacked yet again, will he be there to protect her?
